My favourite ride starts in my home town of Kelso in the Scottish Borders before heading North into the hills.
When I reach Greenlaw the scenery starts to change and I normally pick up a good tailwind 👌 Just before I reach the next town of Duns, I turn left out of the tailwind and into the hills, this is where my favourite road starts. The first climb is about 5km at an average of 5% but gets much steeper towards the top.
My view from the top of the first climb looking back towards Kelso From there I have a little descent before starting the 2nd big climb. This is about 13km with a little descent in the middle. The scenery has now changed again as I head for the clouds
Unfortunately this is normally the view I get towards the top. Finally when I reach the top after about 60km I am rewarded with a view of Edinburgh and across the river towards Fife. From here I turn right where I normally pick up the tailwind again and hit a very quick descent towards Whiteadder reservoir.
As I descend I start to see views of Kelso again before I reach the only flat roads of the whole ride. When I arrive back in Duns i leave the climbing behind me as I finish the ride with a flat 25km into a headwind.

This is my favourite ride because of how lonely it is up in the Lammermuir hills. I can get lost in my own thoughts and pretend I am climbing the big cols in France with the sun 😉. It is also a good test of my form, I know if I can do the 100km ride in under 3h then I am going well.
